I’m very excited to announce that I have been chosen to attend the Young Leaders Tour 2016 in India, as part of a Young Opportunities Australia international program.
I will be joining 12 other young Australians who will make up the Young Opportunities Australia group, travelling to Delhi in January and will participate in a 14-day leadership program in January.
The Young Leaders 2016 Tour is a unique multi-disciplinary program that brings together university students and recent graduates from across Australia to develop their leadership capabilities, entrepreneurial mindset and career strategy. Our group will attend a meeting with the United Nations International Labour Organisation and visit local community organisations including Salaam Baalak Trust and Asha as well as interacting with local community run schools and rehabilitated street children.
During the program, we will travel to New Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, to experience the cultural diversity and history of India. I am particularly looking forward to learning about India’s education system and visiting classrooms that are entirely different to anything I’ve ever experienced. I believe that as a global citizen in the 21st century it is so important to travel and keep yourself open to new experiences and cultures.
Attending this leadership tour will enable me to develop my leadership skills while travelling through a foreign country. As a high school English teacher I’m looking forward to being able to share my experiences with my students back in Australia. I hope that it will make my delivery of projects such as the current Cultural Poetry project more authentic.
Like Young Opportunities Australia Director Margaret Quixley says: “This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for these young Australians to develop themselves as leaders in a particularly challenging setting”.
What is Young Opportunities Australia?
Established in 2014, Young Opportunities Australia is a social enterprise that provides information, support and advice to students and graduates seeking purposeful career development opportunities. It does this through engaging young people online, at workshops and events, and through study tours operated by Generate Worldwide, Australia’s educational travel company.
